The Big Earthquake seen at Konan University

The devastating earthquake attacked the Kwansai area 17th morning. Kounan Unviersity, located near the acitve fault causing this earthquake, was also badly damaged. Here we show photos offered by Prof. Kajino of Konan University, who is in the right-hand side in this photo . If you have any questions regarding this page, please contact kajino@konan-u.ac.jp. of Konan University (red mark). These photos are probably differenct from those frequently seen in mass-media and in some sense important for persons working in universities or like places.

In the last picture, you see broken big columns without which the bldg. seems quit normal.

The next 4 picutres are rooms of the Astroparticle Physics Lab. which is inside of a bldg. with very small damage.

Despite these disasterous pictures, the computers were alive !

The death toll of the Konan students was 16. Alas !

A destructive fire took place in the chemical department located in a new bulding.

One of the urgent issues of the University is to make rooms for the staffs and students; the entrance exam must somehow be managed. They started making 10 temporary two-storey buildings on the ground.

The earthquake happend before the end of the term-end exam. Instead of the exam, the students are requested to make reports

The library was at mess although the building itself was safe. The Konan students can use the library of some other universities by courtesy.
