The devastating earthquake attacked the Kwansai area 17th morning. Kounan Unviersity, located near the acitve fault causing this earthquake, was also badly damaged. Here we show photos offered by Prof. Kajino of Konan University, who is in the right-hand side in this photo . If you have any questions regarding this page, please contact kajino@konan-u.ac.jp. The photos are scenes taken at Konan University which is located near the center of the district where the damage was most severe. Here you see the location of Konan University (red mark). These photos are probably differenct from those frequently seen in mass-media and in some sense important for persons working in universities or like places.

Below we list the outer look of bldgs. 2, 3, and 5:

Bldg.2(a) Bldg.2(b)

Bldg.3(a) Bldg.3(b)

Bldg.3(c) Bldg.3(d) Bldg.5

In the last picture, you see broken big columns without which the bldg. seems quit normal.

The next 4 picutres are rooms of the Astroparticle Physics Lab. which is inside of a bldg. with very small damage.

Lab.(a) Lab.(b) At this corner, sometimes students take a sleep when they work through the night. Fortunately, no students were there at that moment.

Lab.(c) Lab.(d)

Despite these disasterous pictures, the computers were alive !

You see all mess also in the Library.Library

The death toll of the Konan students was 16. Alas !

The following photos were taken about 3 weeks after the tragedy.
